I don't exactly have an idea for this story, but I do... sort of. The titile is from Ashanti's song, Kansas. The story'll be like the song. Not based off of it, but it'll have the same theme. These are the lyrics:
[Verse]
Wind blowin' through my hair
Everybody tellin' me there's nowhere like home
Oh, no
There's somewhere else for me
I need to take the oppurtunity and go
And go, yeah
'Cause, round here, it's all too far
And when I look up to the stars
I wanna be, I wanna be like they are
Ooh
[Chorus]
Sometimes you gotta get of kansas (gotta get out)
And sometimes you gotta take your chances (to find the answers)
'Cause no one ever made it just waitin' around
For their big minutes in a two-bit town
One thing I know is crystal clear
I gotta get out of here
[Verse]
A new sound, a whole new crowd
Why whisper when I want to sing out loud
Let me here you say yeah, yeah (yeah, yeah)
I'm on land, but I can fly
Something in my heart saying I was meant to shine
Like a diamond in the sky
I wanna see my name in lights
And someone to buy movie rights
I wanna hear my music come to life
[Chorus]
Sometimes you gotta get of kansas (gotta get out)
And sometimes you gotta take your chances (to find the answers)
'Cause no one ever made it just waitin' around
For their big minutes in a two-bit town
One thing I know is crystal clear
I gotta get out of here
[Outro]
I gotta get outta here
Mmhmm
I gotta get outta here
Wait, I think I can come up with something now. The story, which we could probably do by chapters, will revolve around three main characters: a seventeen-year-old girl named Cherish, a fifteen-year-old named Asia, and an eighteen-year-old named Mickey.
Cherish grew up in the foster care system all her life, until her father, who had been serving a fifteen-year bid, gets out and gains custody of her. She tries to adjust to her new life while letting go of what she's been through in the past.
Asia is one of the few rich black girls in her city. She's using to having the world handed to her. She can do no wrong in her parent's eyes, and, strangely, she's sick of it. She hates having to keep up the image of perfection all the time, so she ventures into the hood to see what real life is like. Can she get out of those problems as easily as she got into them?
Mickey is the mother of a one-year-old little boy named Mekhi. Her parents disowned her when they found out she was pregnant, so she moved in with Trey, Mekhi's abusive father. Mickey is determined to make a better life for her and her son, but that's really hard to do when she's constantly worrying about her bipolar boyfriend's next move.
When these three girls meet, they lean on each other for emotional support. They become the closest thing to family that each one has, but what happens when one of these girls make a huge mistake? Will love and friendship overcome their hardships, or will they go back to square one?
What do you think? Is it a good idea? If so, I'll make a new thread and we can start. (Each chapter will be about two to three pages long.)
