"Well there were several bank accounts that I'm still getting bank statements from. But...one has over five hundred thousand in it and that's one account out of the eight he had." "Wow." I had never been in contact with that much money and to think this will all be mines with my signature on a couple papers.

"I'd like to get these papers signed as soon as possible. The only thing is that you need a guardian with you-" "I already have that covered." "Okay, choose a date and we'll meet up then."

"Okay, thanks." "No problem. I'll see you tomorrow." I hung up the phone feeling better than I had in a long time.

I knew I would only go up from here. I pulled out my bag and packed a couple of items because I knew when I was leaving there was nothing that would stop me.

I was on high for the rest of that night. Not even my stepsisters and their antics could ruin my mood. The next day, I was feeling even better.

I took my time to get real cute that morning before meeting Tracey at the bus stop. "Hey doll." He said before slicking on his favorite lip gloss. "Hey honey what's happening?" "Nothing much, but what are you so happy about? You're still living with Evilene...or are you? Did you move out? Oh my gosh you moved out you know what you need to have a house warming party and when I say party I mean getting down, music, good food the whole shebang and-" "Tracey!" "Huh?" "I haven't moved anywhere chill out." "Oh so...why you so happy?"

"You'll see soon." "Cindy, you know I suck at riddles. I failed the English test Ms. McClarson gave on riddles last week. You know she called my mama and everything? I swear that woman is out to get me. She's lucky I don't-" "Tracey!" "Oh, my bad. Wassup?" "The bus is here."

"Okay Ms. Thang don't get all sassy on me. You need to save that for your stepwitch." I slide my bus pass on the sensor and Tracey followed right after me. We walked to the back of the bus and took the seats we claimed as our own since ninth grade.

The bus ride to school always seemed to last an eternity to me bu I didn't mind that day since I knew I wouldn't have to deal with it much longer. When w got to school, we sat in the courtyard like we did every morning.

I pulled out my compact mirror and slicked on some lipgloss before checking my hair. "Okay now I know somethings going on, because the Cindy I knew only wore Chapstick." Tracey laughed. "What if I told you I will finally be getting rid of my stepmother and the chipmunks for good." "You have a hit out on them?" He whispered. "Are you crazy you could go to jail and now I know and I can go to jail too. Oh my gosh I don't do prison. They don't have Louie Vuitton jumpsuits and my hair would be looking a mess without my flat iron. Oh my gosh I can't live like this any more I-" "Tracey! Would you please." I yelled. Tracey always took a little information to another level. "What?" "Nobody's going to jail. I'm saying I'm about to get this money you know from when my dad died."

"Oh, you didn't have to put me through all the extra stuff to say that." "You put yourself throught the extra stuff!" "Tomato, tomato. How much money are we talking?" "More than a little, that's for sure." "Enough to give your best friend a pair of tickets to Trey Songz's concert next week. I need to see my baby bad, girl." I frowned. "You could have kept that to yourself but, yeah, I got you."

"Oh girl you are the best. You know I love you right?" He said squeezing me tightly. "Yeah Yeah. Let's get to class." I said just as the bell rung.

For the next six hours and forty minutes, my mind was on everything but school. I couldn't wait to get to work. When the last bell of the day rang, I practically flew out of the building.

I got to work and I was bursting with excitement. I was anticipating the arrival of who I call the money man. From this day on my life was going to be completely different. Exactly an hour before closing the money man arrived. I led him to a booth at the back of the restaurant so we could have a private meeting without anyone listening. "Okay so when does my life change?" I said as we both sat down. "Hopefully soon, but I have some news." "Umm okay." "I had to make a couple of calls to make sure everything was in place and a parent or guardian has to sign off on you getting the money." It was like my life had stopped. I knew it was no way that I was going to get my step mother to sign the papers for me. "Oh...okay." "Yeah, but I can give you the forms and I can come back in a week and pick them up." "Okay. Thanks." I said grabbing the papers before he left. I had no idea how I could pull this off, but I had to find a way.

"Vickie, I'm leaving," I said as I walked into her office. "Okay, Cindy, I'll see you tomorrow." I paused for a second before leaving. I wanted to ask her to forge my stpmother's signature, but I knew she wouldn't go for that. "Do you need something?" she asked, noticing my hesitation. "No, uh, I'll see you tomorrow."

I quickly walked out before she could ask me what was wrong. I knew that if I asked my stepmother to sign it she wouldn't or she would try to find some way to get all the money and leave me with none.

The entire bus ride home, I thought about how I could get her to sign the paper. I couldn't tell her what it was for and no one else would sign it. As I walked into the house, a thought occured to me. I quickly went into my room and took the papers out of my bag. I folded the top half down since she only had to sign at the bottom, then I took an old field trip form out of my bag. This was the first time I was ever grateful that I never cleaned my book bag. I cut the bottom half of the field trip form off and stapled the corners down over the paper my stepmom needed to sign. After she signed it, all I would have to do was remove the staples.
